SAVE THE DATE Craft Study Tour to Columbus
May 16-19, 2019 Columbus, Ohio
Columbus, Ohio is a charming city with many stone buildings from the turn of the century and a vibrant arts community. Expect to see collector's homes, artist studios, galleries and more. As the tour is in the spring, we may even leave time to enjoy the park by the river, called the Scioto Mile or the botanical gardens, exhibiting work by Dale Chihuly.
Organized by JRA Board Member Brenda Erickson with help from Tom Hawk, owner of Hawk Galleries, which specializes in glass, and Sherrie Riley Hawk, owner of Sherrie Gallery, which features an eclectic mix of craft. Besides extended visits to these two galleries where we shall meet with a few of their artists, we will be able to view other galleries in the area. We shall also visit artist studios and are posed to have demonstrations by Joe Rosanno, Martin Blank, William Ortman, and Kaname Takada.
We shall see two fiber exhibitions at the Riffe Gallery and the Columbus Cultural Center, as well as the current exhibition at the Ohio Craft Museum. Plans are being finalized to arrange lunch at the Columbus Club in an elegant early 20th century building.
To facilitate an early start, the trip will begin Thursday evening. Accommodations will be made for members who arrive on Friday. The trip will end around 1:00 PM on Sunday.
