Enjoy a meet-up trip to The Griffin Art Center at Frederick, MD, featuring life drawing demonstrations, talks and studio visits with premier Frederick area artists, and a solo show and talk by JRA member and sculpture artist Chris Corson. 

 


 

11:00am Demo Figure Session
Watch a live life-drawing session featuring 3 well-known artists. (The model will be draped.)
- Homer Yost, a figurative sculptor- Lee Newman, a printmaker, painter, and founder of the Washington Studio School
- Johan Lowie, a Belgian abstract painter

12:00pm Lunch

1:30pm Artist Talk by JRA member Chris Corson
Chris is a figurative sculptor, working in ceramic. His artist's talk "A sculptor's take on the nude" will be in the Griffin's Blue Elephant Gallery, where his solo show "Look and Listen" will run from April 7 to 28.

2:30pm Studio Visits
The Griffin houses 24 resident artists working in sculpture, painting, ceramics, glass and more. Many studios will be open for visit, including painter and engraver Chris Madden (engraver for the US Treasury Dept.) and nationally known steampunk craftsman Wheeler Stone

4:00pm Happy Hour NOMA Gallery
NOMA is a fine art co-op gallery of 19 artists, housed in the Griffin, fronting on Market St.

 

The Griffin Art Center, at the corner of North Market and 5th St., is a 13,000 square foot creative hub of artist studios, classrooms and galleries.  Originally built as a commercial bakery, it is now owned and managed by Frederick businesswoman and arts impresario Alice Hoxie. Alice has planned an itinerary to show off the Frederick arts community, bringing outside artists into the Griffin, as well as showcasing the Griffin’s own resources.
